At this point in the season, variety is the name of the game. You can start your morning Dolly fishing, and end it King fishing. Or, you could begin your day Sockeye fishing (if it's a Wednesday or Saturday) and end it Dolly or King Fishing.
This week the Dolly Varden fishing has only gotten better since last week. They seem to be cultivating closer to the Salmon Creek area than anywhere else, but have still been found along Boy Scout Beach, Sheep Creek, Echo Cove, and now open to Dolly fishing: Auke Creek. Try focusing on the outgoing to low tide and low into the incoming flood tide. These hungry Dollies are still feeding on the AK Clouser Minnow and the Stinger Clouser Minnow in Gray/White and Olive/White. Focus on stripping your line in quick, short strips to attract these Dollies to your fly.
As far as Kings go, we have not heard or seen any reports of them being caught off the shore line yet. However, people who have been out trolling seem to be catching them closer to town, so now is the time to go out and find them! Try fishing Auke Creek and Fish Creek at outgoing to low and incoming from low to high tides. Try using flies such as Mr. Bodangles, Rockstar, and Mega Dolly Llama.
Finally, on the sockeye front: our inside sources say that this Wednesday no sockeye were spotted at Windfall Creek. The water was high due to Herbert running extremely high (possibly due to a jokulhlaup) and pushing into Windfall creek. With the rain we have in the forecast, it will most likely rise more. This could mean that there will be sockeye pushing into the creek, but more than likely they will wait until Herberts flow levels go down. Just remember; fishing is only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays for the month of June.
Happy Fishing!
